- Pick the ratio for where it will be posted.
- Use zoom and position to frame the subject.
- Download the cropped image, then resize it if needed.
Which ratio to use
| Ratio | Use |
|---|---|
| 1:1 | Instagram and Facebook square posts, profile photos |
| 4:5 | Instagram portrait posts, takes more feed space |
| 9:16 | Stories, Reels, Shorts, WhatsApp Status |
| 16:9 | YouTube thumbnails, website banners |
| 1.91:1 | Link previews and Open Graph images |
Framing tips
Keep faces and key text away from the edges, especially for Stories, where app buttons cover the top and bottom. For profile photos that show as circles, keep the face centred with some space around it.

Is this image cropper free?
Yes. It is free with no sign-up, and images never leave your device.
What is the best ratio for Instagram?
4:5 portrait takes the most space in the feed. 1:1 square is also common.
Does cropping reduce quality?
Cropping removes pixels from the edges. Zooming in a lot leaves fewer pixels, so start with a large photo.
Can I crop to a custom size?
Crop to a ratio here, then set exact pixels in the image resizer.
