Free URL Slug Generator
Turn any title into a short, clean URL slug. Remove special characters and stop words, set a maximum length and convert many titles at once, one per line.
How to use the slug generator
- Paste one or more titles, one per line.
- Keep hyphens as the separator unless your platform needs something else.
- Choose whether to remove stop words and numbers. Removing “the”, “and” and years keeps URLs short and evergreen.
- Set a maximum length and copy the slugs.
What is a URL slug?
The slug is the last part of a URL that names the page. In adifyskills.com/seo-course-in-faridabad/, the slug is seo-course-in-faridabad. A good slug tells people and search engines what the page is about before they click.
Rules for SEO-friendly slugs
| Do | Avoid |
|---|---|
| Use lowercase letters | Capitals, which can create duplicate URLs |
| Separate words with hyphens | Spaces, underscores and symbols |
| Keep the main keyword | Long sentences and filler words |
| Keep it evergreen | Years and dates that will age, like 2026 |
| Keep it short, roughly 3 to 6 words | Random IDs and parameters |
Changing slugs on live pages
If a page is already published and ranking, think twice before changing its slug. The old URL may have links and rankings. If you must change it, add a 301 redirect from the old URL to the new one. In WordPress, Rank Math’s Redirections module can do this, and our on-page SEO checklist covers the other URL basics.

Is this slug generator free?
Yes. It is free with no sign-up, and you can convert as many titles as you like at once.
Should I use hyphens or underscores in URLs?
Use hyphens. Google recommends hyphens to separate words in URLs, because underscores can join words together.
Should I remove stop words from slugs?
Usually yes, as long as the slug still makes sense. Removing words like the, and and of keeps URLs short without losing meaning.
Should I include the year in my URL?
Usually no. A year in the slug makes the URL look outdated next year, and you would need a redirect to update it.
Can I make slugs from Hindi titles?
This tool keeps only English letters and numbers, which are safest in URLs. For Hindi titles, write a short English or transliterated slug, such as seo-kaise-sikhe.
