Hreflang Tag Generator

Create hreflang tags for sites with several languages or regions, such as English and Hindi versions of a page. Add each version and get HTML tags or XML sitemap entries with code checks.

How to use the hreflang generator

  1. List each version of the page with its language or language-region code and URL.
  2. Add an x-default URL, usually your main English page or a language selector.
  3. Copy the tags into the head of every version, or use the sitemap format.

Hreflang codes

CodeMeans
enEnglish, any region
en-INEnglish for India
hi-INHindi for India
en-GBEnglish for the UK (not en-UK)
x-defaultFallback for everyone else

Language uses ISO 639-1 codes and region uses ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 codes. A region alone, like IN, is not valid.

Do you need hreflang?

Only if you have the same content in different languages or for different countries, such as English and Hindi versions of a course page. A single-language site for India does not need hreflang. Hinglish content written in Roman script is usually treated as English or Hindi by context, so focus on clear content instead.

Set the preferred URL with the canonical tag generator, build a sitemap with the XML sitemap generator, and find Hinglish keywords with the Hinglish keyword generator.
