Keyword Match Type Generator
Paste your keyword list and convert it into Google Ads broad, phrase and exact match formats. The tool cleans spaces, symbols and duplicates so the list is ready for Google Ads or Ads Editor.
How to use the match type generator
- Paste your keywords, one per line.
- Tick the match types you want.
- Copy the result and paste it into the keywords box of an ad group in Google Ads.
Google Ads match types today
| Type | Format | Shows for |
|---|---|---|
| Broad | seo course | Searches related to the meaning, even without the words |
| Phrase | "seo course" | Searches that include the meaning of the phrase |
| Exact | [seo course] | Searches with the same meaning or intent |
All three now match close variants such as plurals, misspellings and same-meaning words, so exact no longer means only the exact words.
Which match type should you use?
- New or small budget: start with phrase and exact for control.
- Enough conversion data: test broad with Smart Bidding to find new searches.
- Always: add negatives from the negative keyword list generator and review your search terms weekly with the search terms analyzer.

Is this match type generator free?
Yes. It is free with no sign-up and works in your browser.
Is modified broad match still available?
No. Google retired broad match modifier, and its behaviour is now part of phrase match.
Which symbols are not allowed in Google Ads keywords?
Many symbols, such as ! @ % , and =, are not allowed. The tool removes them for you.
Should I add both phrase and exact versions?
Many advertisers do, so they can bid higher on the exact version. Keep it simple if your budget is small.
