How to use the Open Graph preview tool
- Paste the page URL you want to share.
- Write a share title and description. These can be different from your SEO title, because people on social media scroll fast and need a reason to stop.
- Add an image URL, or pick an image from your device to test how it crops. A local image stays on your device.
- Switch between Facebook, WhatsApp, LinkedIn and X to see each preview, and fix any orange or red checks.
- Copy the meta tags and add them to the page, or paste the same values into the Social tab of Rank Math or Yoast.
What are Open Graph tags?
Open Graph tags are small lines of code in the head of a web page. They tell Facebook, WhatsApp, LinkedIn and other apps which title, description and image to show when someone shares the link. Facebook created the standard, and most platforms now read it. X also reads its own twitter card tags, which this tool creates for you.
Without these tags, apps guess. They may pick your logo, a random image from the page or no image at all, and the title may be cut in odd places. A good share preview gets more clicks from every WhatsApp group and social post.

Keep important text and faces away from the edges of the image, because some apps crop the sides or corners. WhatsApp often shows a smaller thumbnail when the image is not large enough.
Why is my old preview still showing?
Facebook, LinkedIn and WhatsApp save a copy of your preview the first time a link is shared. If you change the tags later, they may keep showing the old version for a while. Facebook’s Sharing Debugger and LinkedIn’s Post Inspector let you ask them to fetch the page again. For WhatsApp, adding a small query such as ?v=2 to the end of the link usually forces a fresh preview.
Tips for better share previews
- Write the share title for people, not for Google. A clear benefit works better than a keyword list.
- Use a real photo of your institute, shop or product instead of a stock image where you can.
- Add short, readable text on the image, but not too much. Two to six words is plenty.
- Check every important page, especially pages you share on WhatsApp, such as course pages and offers.
- Make sure the image URL is public. Images behind a login cannot be fetched.
